We were lucky enough to receive funding from Gateshead Council, and have begun using this fund to get the bee club fully prepared for the upcoming season.
With an eye to both quality and price we bough Maisemore flatpack hives, and also raided Thorne’s sales !
On Saturday 11th February we woke up to find the most miserable cold, windy rainy weather. Was anyone going to show up in this to assemble a load of hives ?
Of course they were ! Lots of people turned up to our bowling pavilion home, bearing soup, bread and cakes as well as hammers, knives, pliers and a huge dose of beekeeper energy.
I’d thought we might do a couple of hives and a few frames, but we got the lot done and dusted. Brood boxes, supers and frames all done. Many hand do indeed make light work, and it was a lovely friendly chatty sort of day too.
Can’t wait for the next one.
